The session went incredibly smoothly, and we explored a few different setups. One of my favorites are the ones with a big sis and their adorable, Hoggie- which made for an absolutely adorable shots. As always, I also loved capturing the family and sibling photos—those images always stand out because of their deep connections and emotional vibes. They’re simply heartwarming.
While I take care of most of the details to make newborn sessions as easy as possible for parents, there are a few steps on your end that can help things go even more smoothly. Let’s dive into those tips!

Top 5 Tips for Preparing for Your Newborn Session
Welcoming a new baby into your life is a magical time, and capturing those first precious moments with a newborn photo session is something you’ll cherish forever. I’ve compiled some friendly and professional tips to help you make the most of your session to ensure everything goes smoothly.
1. Schedule the Session Early
Timing is everything when it comes to newborn photography. The best time for a session is within the first 10-21 days of birth when your little one is still super sleepy and can be easily posed. It’s a good idea to book your session while you’re still pregnant to secure your spot in my schedule. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did!

2. Keep the Baby Comfortable
A happy, comfortable baby is the key to a successful session. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Feeding: Make sure to feed your baby right before the session. A full tummy usually means a sleepy, content baby.
- Temperature: Newborns are sensitive to temperature changes, so keep the environment warm. A space heater can work wonders – I handle this for you with my portable heater.
- Clothing: Dress your baby in loose-fitting clothes that are easy to removed when I arrive. This way, you won’t disturb their slumber when it’s time to undress. Even if you keep your baby in a diaper and a loose blanket.
3. Prepare for Breaks
Newborn sessions can take a few hours, and that’s perfectly normal. Be ready for breaks to feed, change, and soothe your baby. Patience is key here, and having snacks and drinks for yourself can keep you comfortable during the session. Remember, this time is about capturing those fleeting moments, so it’s worth the wait.

4. Essential Props and Outfits
Personal touches make your photos unique. I bring along everything needed with beautiful, timeless props but you’re welcome to use items for some special items that are unique to you. Here are some ideas:
- Special Items: any special blankets, toys, or outfits you’d like to include in the photos. These can add a personal touch to your images.
- Neutral Colors: Choose outfits in neutral or pastel colors to keep the focus on your baby and ensure timeless photos.
5. Coordinate with the Photographer
Communication with your photographer is crucial for a smooth session:
- Discuss Ideas: Share any specific poses or themes you have in mind. I can help bring your vision to life.
- Understand the Process: Ask questions about the session’s flow and what to expect. Knowing the plan can help you feel more relaxed and prepared.
- Safety First: I have 15 years of full-time experience with newborns and prioritize safety in all poses and setups. Your baby’s safety is the top priority.
By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to a smooth and enjoyable newborn photo session. Relax, enjoy the process, and get ready to create beautiful images.
